La processione del venerdì santo

processione del venerdì santoThe evening of Good Friday the procession of Cristo Morto winds its way through the dark streets of the beautiful medieval town of Sulmona bathed in the flickering light of torches.

Between the two rows of torch-bearers walks a choir of 120 singers, who swish their feet on the cobbles adding this whispering sound to their voices and the music of various famous funeral marches. Bearers carry the cross and the statue of the Vergine Addolorata, dressed all in black, who follows the bier of the dead Christ. This is one of the most atmospheric of the many Easter processions held in Abruzzo.
